It is no secret how important a good night’s sleep is to help your body and mind recover from the day. This is especially true for your skin, which is exposed to varying degrees of dirt, dust and dehydration throughout the day. By establishing a nighttime skincare routine focused on rehydration, you can better relieve and rejuvenate your skin. Here are a few of our favorite tips for keeping your skin soft, smooth and healthy.

  • Apply moisturizer generously to all parts of your body before bed. As you sleep, your lotion gets the time it needs to properly absorb into the skin. Since you are also moving less, you aren’t as likely to have the lotion rub off or sweat off before it is fully absorbed.
  • You can also take your nighttime hydration up another notch for those areas that are prone to being extra dry, like your hands and feet. Apply a thick layer of lotion and then go to bed with socks or gloves on to help lock in the moisture. This is a great wintertime trick as the cold weather dries your hands and feet and causes flaky or cracked skin.
  • If your skin is on the oilier side, don’t start skipping your nighttime skincare routine. Your skin often produces higher amounts of oil as a response to being stripped of too many natural oils, leaving a shiny and greasy look. Hydrating your skin well before bed will replenish the natural oils in your skin and can help control oil throughout the day.
